Wear this netted wrap and catch the eye of many an admirer. To craft this snazzy piece, the only voyage you’ll be required to make is to the craft store, where you can purchase the netting, the beads and the trim. While this skirt features beading, you can drift in most any embellishment direction. Consider using fringe, embroidered trim or little dangling balls on your wrap.
This skirt can easily be finished in the few hours before a night on the town. This project proves that most anything can be a craft supply. Follow these instructions to see how artist Kerry Arquette transformed fishing net into wearable art.
Measure your waist at the point where you plan to tie the wrap. Add 2" to the measurement to determine the length of your waistband.
Have a friend measure you from the back. The measurement should be from the center back of the waistband to the desired hemline of the skirt. Note: The length of the skirt is based upon personal preference and the amount of fishing net with which you have to work.
Use a piece of butcher paper to make a pattern. Draw a line on the paper the length of the waistband (plus 2"). From the center point of the waistband, draw a line to the hemline.
Draw quarter circle shapes beginning 1" from each end of the waistband line and connecting at the center of the hemline. Cut out the pattern.
Use safety pins to pin your piece of fishing net to the pattern. Stretch the net slightly as you do so. Cut out the fishing net. It will be a semi circle with 1" “tags” on either end of the waistband.
Cut a piece of ornate, beaded trim (found in the upolstery section of sewing and craft stores) the length of the waistband. Hand stitch it to the top of the fishing net. Add large hooks and eyes with which to fasten it to your waist.
Hand stitch beads to the fishing net for sparkle. Add heavy beads to the hemline to help pull the fishing net over your hips smoothly and add swing to the skirt.
